Another application of nanotechnology in lighting is PLED lighting. A layer of plastic, nanometres thick, is held between two thin layers of metal. When electricity is passed through, it glows. Screens constructed using PLED technology are expected to have a higher contrast than LCD screens (100:1 contrast ratio), 160 degree viewing angle, and low power consumption. In addition they can be printed onto many unconventional surfaces.
